You Need More People: Building Relationships and Solidarity for Racial Equity

July 26 | 12 pm - 2 pm Eastern

We know from experience that building relationships is essential to advancing racial equity. As a black woman and white woman leading antiracism education and coaching, we constantly grapple with what it means to work together in solidarity. In our workshops, we talk about the importance of building coalition and community. But how do we foster relationships rooted in trust, care, and mutuality?

We can’t work together if we don't trust each other. And we can't trust each other if we don't know each other. So where do we begin? Maintaining friendships and working relationships is hard enough. Add in the unease that some people feel about doing or saying the wrong thing when race is involved, and it makes things even trickier.

In this workshop, we go beyond allyship to talk about how to build the community, coalition, and solidarity necessary for real change. Picking up where our Building a Better White Ally workshop left off, we’ll discuss how white allies and BIPOC people can navigate race in our relationships. We’ll share what we’ve learned from working together and collaborating over the years. We’ll also look at how to avoid some of the common mistakes that keep people from connecting and from making progress toward antiracism.

Join us to explore how we can cultivate meaningful relationships and work together toward a shared vision of racial equity—without making it weird, losing trust, or losing our way.

This is a two-hour online workshop that includes:

Facilitated Discussion. Hear strategies, recommendations, and insights from our work and lived experience building relationships and community for racial equity.

Coursework. Get pre-reading materials and go deeper with resources, tools, and exercises to try at home.

Small Group Dialogue. Connect with other participants, get coaching, find support, ask questions, and share your reflections.

How It Works

Once registration closes, you’ll receive an email with a private Zoom link. You’ll also receive a password-protected link to access coursework materials to download. We suggest participants set aside at least 1 - 2 hours to complete the coursework beforehand.

If you are unable to attend the Zoom but would still like to participate, we encourage you to still register to get access to a recorded version of the workshop as well as the coursework.
